Overview

Each year, the BII Licensee of the Year Awards recognises excellence in the licence trade. We find the licensee whose approach to running their business shines like a beacon above all others and sets the standard for others to follow. For many it’s the greatest honour they can achieve.

Description

This award is open to all UK licensees (freeholders, tenants/lessees or managers). Entrants have to have been at the business for three full financial years. Entrants do not have to be members of BII. The BII Licensee of the Year will be revealed at the BII Annual Lunch. What follows for the winner is a mass of publicity, high regard from their peers and more success for their business.

New for 2014

The BII are to introduce three new awards as part of the Licensee of the Year celebrations in May 2014.

The three awards, Fundraiser of the Year, Apprentice of the Year and Beer Sommelier of the Year winner, will join the Jeremy Allen Award, the SAB Miller Scholars Programme and the prestigious, Licensee of the Year award, at the event on May 14th at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel.

BII Licensee of the Year 2014

Each year the BII celebrates excellence in the licensed trade through these awards, which are designed to recognise those who demonstrate outstanding achievement, effort and passion whilst working within the pub industry. Jeremy Allen Award sponsored by Poppleston Allen

This award, created in memory of Poppleston Allen’s founding partner, is now in its second year, and recognises excellence in training and staff development. Candidates must show a consistent and strong commitment to staff development and training, a passion and belief in employee advancement that is truly above and beyond the normal, expected levels.

SAB Miller Scholars Programme

Recognising professionalism and a commitment to responsibility is the SABMiller Scholars Programme Award. This established award is open to all staff working in the UK who have qualified and received the Level One Award in Responsible Alcohol Retailing and can prove their long-term, dedicated and responsible approach to a selling alcohol.

Fundraiser of the Year Award sponsored by Pub Aid

With pubs raising more than £106 million a year for charity, this new award celebrates pubs that raise funds, not only in terms of sums raised, but also in their ability to demonstrate a responsible, long-term commitment and approach to raising money for charity.

Beer Sommelier of the Year Award sponsored by the Beer Academy

The award aims to promote, recognise and reward the achievements of beer sommeliers, candidates must be able to demonstrate their ‘excellent’ role in developing beer’s profile within the licensed hospitality sector. Entrants must be qualified Beer Academy Sommeliers at the time of entering.

Apprentice of the Year Award

Three years after the launch of the BII Apprenticeship in Licensed Hospitality, this new award celebrates the great strides the sector has made in the recruitment of apprentices. This award is looking for nominations for apprentices from their employers, to celebrate and reward people working currently engaged in, or having completed, a BII Apprenticeship. Entries should show how becoming an apprentice has benefited both them and the business.
